Artmill Gallery broadens its appeal

Showing with the group’s better known members they mark an important addition to the range and quality offered by this prestigious organisation.
Gallerist Isabell Pierson writes, “Artmill Gallery is pleased to present this annual exhibition by Plymouth’s long established and singular society. In addition to the group’s seasoned members this year the show celebrates a significant group of new recruitments. These include Michael Carter, Peter Clossick, Addy Gardner, Claire Gladstone, Ieuan Holt and Richard Kenton Webb.

Michael Carter is an author and photographer who has published two books focused on studio visits to members of the South West Academy and the Penwith Society of Arts. Beyond the more conventional his photographs explore the ‘corrupted pastoral’.

Peter Clossick has two submissions for his first showing, both oil on canvas. Clossick’s work has been exhibited at the John Moores, Art Miami, Palazzo Strozzi, Camden Art Centre, Whitechapel and Mall Galleries. He has been awarded prizes in the Columbia Threadneedle, Lynn Painter-Stainers and the NEAC.

Richard Kenton Webb and Claire Gladstone bring a re-invigoration to the Society’s early relationship with advanced education in the city. Webb is Senior Lecturer in the Arts University Plymouth, heading the MA courses in Painting, Printmaking and Drawing. He is showing both an oil on board and a drawing from his “Integrity” series. He was winner of the 2020 London Sunny Art Prize.

Gladstone is Workshop Co-ordinator (fine print) at AUP and teaches with the artist collective Printery Studio on Mutley Plain. She has wide ranging experience, locally, nationally and internationally.

Ieuan Holt has completed his final year of an English and Creative Writing course at Plymouth University and works principally in watercolour. Ieuan has also shown at Artmill previously and is a talented newcomer to the PSA.
