RIC Members’ Day: Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro, 22nd November 2014

Dec 11, 2014

This had a particular significance since the afternoon included the 2014 Autumn Lecture: The Power of Place - a journey through Cornwall’s landscapes from author Philip Marsden. The talk was based on his recently published book "Rising Ground" which uses a walk westward through Cornwall to explore ideas of place, identifying a number of myth-rich and ritual sites on the journey. Prominent among these were Stowe's Pound, a Neolithic tor enclosure and Cheesewring, the strange, weathered granite outcrop just above the Cheesewring Quarry on Minions Moor. The area has been a starting point for a number of my paintings, some of which are included in the exhibition.
